Welcome to Nursery

Hello, and welcome to our Nursery family. Our topic for this half term is 'All about Me'. In this topic we will be looking at our ourselves and our families and where we live.

Key Information

Morning Nursery session is 8.45-11.45am.
Afternoon Nursery session is 12.10-3.10pm.
All children are expected to wear the school uniform.
Please make sure you label all of your child's uniform including shoes and coats.
Information will be shared via this website and on Parent Hub.

Session Time

During your child's session time they will have some carpet time activities but we like to try and give your child as much time as we can for them to have free play, Where they can take advantage of activities set up for them or play in the different areas of Nursery. This consists of Small World, Construction, Work Shop, Home Corner, Play Dough, Sand, Water, Paint, Curiosity Cube, Reading Area, Reflection Area and Outside. We like to allow the children the choice to play inside or outside. It is important that children are allowed to play because that is how young children learn, by practicing.

Parent Hub

You will be given information regarding the Parent Hub, this is an app that you must download so that you can receive information from school about your child.

It is very important to myself, Miss Lee, and  Mrs Hussain, that we work together with yourselves as a team to give your child the best possible start at school life, so if you have any concerns or questions please get in touch.

Overview of Each Subject in Nursery

Nursery Curriculum

In Nursery we follow the learning objectives from the Early Years Foundation Stage Development Matters document. We teach these learning objectives through the children's own interests, as children learn best when they are interested in what they are doing.

We follow different topics throughout the year, so that we can give the children lots of new experiences and broaden their knowledge. Throughout our topics we will be looking at the questions 'Where are we going and who will we meet? Creating a recipe of awe and wonder.

We try to keep activities physical as young children learn best when they are moving. The children all have their own 'Learning Journey' book where we record any observations of the children. Your child will also have their own locker on our Nursery wall where we will display work that they have done before putting it into their learning journey.

Topic

Autumn1: All about Me

To begin with this half term the children will be learning about our first topic 'All about me'. The children will be learning about themselves and their families. We will look at how families are different and the houses we live in are different, we will look at different members our familiesn and get to know each other in their new class.

Literacy

In Nursery we want to develop the children's love of books. So we are going to be exploring a core book for each topic we will be learning about. We will be completing activities related to these stories. We will be using the books to learn new vocabulary and to develop the children's interest in our topics.

Phonics

The children work on Phase One Phonics in Nursery, using the Unlocking Letters and Sounds Scheme. We do this whilst playing in the areas and at focussed group times.

Phase One Phonics is all about getting the children tuned into listening to different sounds these could be environmental sounds or instrumental sounds. We teach the children about rhyming words and develop their ability to identify rhyming words. The children learn the initial sounds of words and think about alliteration. We explore the different sounds we can make with our voices and we look at oral blending and segmenting words. In Nursery we have help with our Phonics from our friend Mr Tig Tog.

Mathematics

In Nursery we follow 'Master the Curriculum' scheme of work from the White Rose Hub. It breaks the children's learning down into small steps and covers a range of topics throughout the year.  The activities and resources get children engaged and excited about maths, which they can then take with them as they move up the school.

Autumn 1

In Autumn One the children will be learning about colours, we will name lots of different colours. The children will then move onto matching, they will match colours and link previous learning. They will match various objects and then move onto sorting into groups.
