Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

The staff working in Y1A this year are Mrs Worrell (Monday-Wednesday), Mrs Mitchell (Wednesday-Friday) and Mrs Baig. The staff in Y1B this year are Miss Logue and Mrs Khan. Mrs Shaine supports across both Year 1 classes. 

Please see the documents below to find out what we are learning in Year 1. This shows what we are learning in each subject.

P.E.

Year 1 will have P.E. with Miss Heyes on a Wednesday. Children must come to school wearing full P.E. Kit. Earrings must be removed and hair tied back

Reading Books 

Your child will be given a home reading book please check the front of their diary to find out which day the book will be changed.  Please make sure you read with your child every night for at least 10 mins. 

 

Please make sure your child brings their bag, reading diary, reading book, water bottle and coat everyday.

Homework

Changing reading books

Children in year 1 have their own individual label that states which day they need to change their book. 

Children’s choice / Library book – will be changed on the day their phonics book is changed.

The books must be brought back on the correct day to make sure there is time to change them.

Spellings 

Spellings will be given via Arbor Parent App each week. 

It is important that the children try and use their phonic sounds to segment these words. Even if the word is not spelt correctly but they have used their phonics, that is fine. For example, if the children were spelling play, they may spell it like this, plai. 

Please could your child also write a sentence using one of the words above. When completed, children can bring them into school for a teacher to look at.
